Choosing wall paint color can be intimidating. Keep reading to get some tips!

“What color should I paint my walls?”
Every homeowner has asked him or herself this question. Probably more than once. The good news (or maybe bad news) is that there are no right or wrong answers. At the end of the day, it comes down to what you like. That said, it can still be difficult to zero in on the right choice. Keep reading to get ideas that will give you a little more direction and help you narrow down your paint color choices.
1. Take a look at your existing/new décor
Quite often, the “right” paint color is already in your room. Look around at your furniture, flooring, or curtains…chances are good you’ve already picked out colors for these items that work well together. The pillows may have a little blue accent streak in the fabric, or the carpet might have flashes of tan in it. These little accent colors make great choices for paint color. You may not want to exactly duplicate that color on the wall, but for example, if your couch has some blue in it, a nice light shade of blue can tie all the colors in the room together. So, look at what you already have in the room (or what is supposed to go in the room) and try to find subtle accent colors.
2. Pull colors from your artwork
Any artwork hanging on your wall can be a great source of inspiration for your wall paint. Who better to choose a good color scheme than an artist who is already an expert in the field of colors? You’ve already chosen their art to go on your wall, so why not pull from those colors for your wall paint? As stated above, you might not want to exactly duplicate a color from some artwork if it’s a very strong, bold color. But artwork can serve as an excellent source of paint color for your home and provide you with a color palette for the entire room.
3. Use a color wheel
If you’re starting from scratch, whether it’s a new build or a remodel, a color wheel can be a great tool in choosing paint colors. It will also serve as a useful guide in picking colors for other components of the room. Color wheels use color theory to give you a visual guide of which colors complement each other and help you choose an effective color palette. If you don’t want to use a physical color wheel, a simple google search will pull up several online color wheels that might even provide more functionality. Once you have your color palette picked out, choosing your paint color will be a breeze.
4. Social Media (Instagram, Pinterest, etc.)
Sometimes you have no idea where to begin and don’t really care about any specific color scheme. If this sounds like you, perusing through Instagram or Pinterest can jump start the process. So many people have put together stunning rooms and share pictures all over the internet. You’re bound to come across a style that you like and there’s no shame at all in “copying” what others have done. In fact, it can make your contractor’s life easier if you show him a picture of what you want!
